2020 Vision for 2020 Elections and Beyond

2020 Vision for 2020 Elections and Beyond

By Fleming El-Amin

ACGG maintains an independent, nonpartisan grassroots perspective — true to the vision of coalition-building Imam W. Deen Mohammed set out in 1997. Independence means we evaluate every candidate on the merits.

Questions Worth Asking

Before any candidate earns our support, we should ask:

  • Which candidates have genuinely engaged the Muslim community?
  • Who has solicited our input on the issues that shape our neighborhoods?
  • Who has invested in reaching our community and its media?

We also remember. Federal policies have banned travelers from certain Muslim countries and openly discriminated against many Muslims. When we evaluate candidates, those actions belong in the ledger.

Practical Steps

  • Verify your voter registration status now — don't wait for a deadline
  • Vote the entire ballot, not just the top of the ticket
  • Complete your Census form; representation and resources depend on it
  • Hold officials accountable across multiple elections, not just one

Think beyond the immediate election. The question is not only who wins in November, but what our community builds over the decade.
